Authentication and Legalization
The Consular Section of the Embassy of Honduras in the Republic of Korea provides guidance and assistance, when applicable, regarding authentication and legalization procedures for documents issued in third countries that are intended to have legal effect in Honduras. This service does not apply to documents exchanged exclusively between Honduras and the Republic of Korea, as both countries are States Parties to the Hague Apostille Convention.
Who May Apply?
This service is intended for individuals and legal entities that need to present in Honduras documents issued in third countries and which, due to the nature of the country of origin or destination, require a chain of diplomatic or consular authentications.
Requirements for Initial Evaluation
-
Country of origin of the document.
-
Country where the document will have legal effect.
-
Type of document.
-
Clear scanned copy of the document.
-

Procedure
-
The applicant submits the documentation and basic information by email for preliminary evaluation.
-
The Embassy determines whether the case requires an apostille or a consular authentication process for a country that is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention.
-
If the procedure is applicable, the applicant is informed of the appropriate process, any additional requirements, and the corresponding reference fees.
-
When applicable, the Embassy authenticates the foreign consular signature or coordinates with other embassies through a Diplomatic Note (Note Verbale).
-
The document continues through the authentication chain until its final validation in Honduras before the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Important Information
The Embassy does not participate in the ordinary processing of Korean documents intended for use in Honduras or Honduran documents intended for use in Korea. In such cases, the document must be apostilled directly by the competent authority of the issuing country.
Cases involving countries that are not parties to the Hague Apostille Convention often require additional coordination and may take one to two weeks in more complex situations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea does not authenticate signatures of foreign consular officials. Therefore, diplomatic coordination between embassies must be used when required.
